Spectral-Timing of Aquila X-1
Abstract
In this contribution we report on the spectral-timing analysis of AquilaX-1 observations taken with the Neutron Star Interior CompositionExplorer (NICER). Leveraging NICER's excellent spectral and timingcapabilities we extend, for the first time, the spectral-timing analysisof the accreting neutron star hard state to soft photon energies. Wefind that the slow X-ray variability shows a dramatic increase inamplitude towards its lowest photon energies. We discuss theimplications of our results on the structure of the accretion flowaround neutron stars, and highlight the similarities and differenceswith respect to hard state black hole systems.
